At Acre Rigg Infants school we follow Letters and Sounds, a phonic resource. It is a detailed and systematic programme for teaching phonic skills for children. There are 6 phases, Phase 1 starting in Nursery up to Phase 6 in Year2, although children work through each phase at their own pace. In school we use Phonics Play to support the children as part of their Phonics session. School children are also given a username and password to access Bug Club to help encourage and support their reading both at school and at home. Oxford Reading Tree and Big Cat Phonics are the main reading schemes used throughout the school. Learning to read is made fun through stories that children can both identify with and want to read for themselves.
If you have any questions regarding the curriculum we teach, please contact the school directly.
